CASDON BABY HUGGLES CHANGING MAT SET REVIEW

As you may have guessed from my last post featuring the Casdon Grocery Set, we are a huge fan of the Casdon products. They help to promote imaginative play, whilst also teaching children key development skills such as co-ordination and her memory skills. The Baby Huggles Changing Mat Set lets her imagine changing and caring for her toys, and learning how the nappy changing process works. I've noticed that she has taken more of an interest in the different steps when I change her nappy, and she wants to change her monkey at the same time.

ALL ABOUT THE BABY HUGGLES RANGE

The Casdon Baby Huggles range has everything you need when it comes to your little ones caring for their dolls or soft toys. Although most of the items are pink in colour, all the products in the range are great for both boys and girls. Although the products could use a bit of an update when it comes to colour options, I don't personally have a problem buying Elise items that are classed as "Boys" toys, or colours, so I think that the products in this range would be great for girls and boys. Products in the range include items such as the Car Booster Seat and the Doll's Bath and Potty Set. Elise doesn't own any dolls, as every time we give her to option of buying one, she would rather have a new toy car or some Duplo. That's okay though as the products are suitable for any toy. The Changing Mat set we tried out says that the changing mat set is suitable for dolls up to 46cm.

CASDON BABY HUGGLES CHANGING MAT SET

The Casdon Baby Huggles Changing Mat Set helps your little one to keep their dolly, or soft toy nice and clean in style. This adorable set includes a cushioned changing mat, which is the perfect size for a toy up to 46cm, a re-usable play nappy (that is just like a normal disposable nappy), real brush, comb, pretend talc bottle (empty), cream (empty) and a plastic container for a few wipes (empty). This set really does have everything you need to change your toy and keep them nice and clean, as well as comfortable. You can fill the wipe box (I fit two in), as well as the pot of cream and talc box if you wish.

The Changing Mat Set is suitable for children above the age of 3, but with supervision I would say that you can use it with children younger. You may want to remove the lid of the talc box as this is the smallest part of the set and may be a choking hazard. I recommended in my last post about the Grocery set that it was suitable for my daughter (19 months at the time of the review) but I just removed parts that I thought were only suitable for older children. Now Elise is 20 months, this set is perfect for her, and she does get lots of enjoyment from playing with the set.

WHAT SKILLS CAN THE CHANGING MAT SET DEVELOP?

In my opinion, the main skills that the set helps to develop are related to the imagination and role playing skills. The set helps your child to put themselves in a real life situation and as the product is so close to the real items that are involved in nappy changing, it helps them to recognise the products, as associate them with real life situations.

It also helps them to learn routine and helps them to develop a sense of order. Elise has learnt all the different steps for changing her soft toy's nappies. From wiping them, to putting on their nappy, she is learning that there is a certain order to doing things. I have watched her play with the changing mat set, and have seen her learn the order in which to do things. She loves to repeat the steps over and over again.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON THE BABY HUGGLES CHANGING MAT SET

We love the changing mat set, and Elise loves changing all of her toys. The reusable nappy has held up well, and although the tabs will eventually lose the stickiness, we will be able to use and nappy we choose in the future. I like that the nappy is just like the ones we use, but I would be interested to know whether the nappy is biodegradable for when we do have to throw it away. We do use biodegradable nappies ourselves, so this would be interesting to know.

As I already said, I think the main negative of this product is the colour. I'd love to see it in a more neutral colour so that it is seen as more acceptable for different genders. I do feel that we are slowly making the transition for products not to be aimed at boys or girls, but it is typical for people to relate pink to a girl. A more gender neutral colour may encourage boys to play with it more as they won't assume it is for girls.
