2018 Blogging, Vlogging and Life Goals

I have never really been much of a goal setter before, which I have actually mentioned before on this blog. However, I have changed my mind a little bit after learning more about the mindset you need to have in order to reach and achieve your ambitions. Instead of just seeing things as a dream, you have to see yourself actually achieving and having the things that you want in life. Once you have measurable goals set out, you are more likely to achieve your goal.


That is why this year I have decided to set myself some goals that I am going to crush by the end of the year...and if I don't it doesn't matter as I know that I will have done everything in my power to achieve what I want to, and in 2019 I will work even harder to take another step towards my ideal life. 

This post is quite long, so I've split my goals into sections for you.

Blogging Goals




Introduction


I have put a lot of time into writing and deciding on my goals for this year. I wanted things that were measurable, and that weren't just physical goals. I wanted to work on my business, as well as my self and shift my focus onto all the things that are important to me. I have let my hobbies and interests fall to the side lately whilst I waste time scrolling aimlessly on the internet, and this is one of the main things I want to change in 2018. I want to use my time more productively so that I can actually achieve things as opposed to wishing things would just happen. 

From running my blog for a whole year now, I know how much hard work needs to be put into it to make it run successfully. I know that there is a more that I could be doing to reach my goal of supporting my family through my blog and youtube channel. I can't even talk about my youtube channel right now as I haven't even really made videos in 2017 and this is one of the things I am going to be focusing on alongside my blog.  I will post an update every 3 months to let you know how my goals are going, and what I have achieved so far.

Blogging Goals

1. Earn £1000 in one month 
The most I have earned so far in one month on my blog is £500. I now have a business bank account which makes me feel very grown up and is also giving me the push to aim to make more money on my blog. Seeing "A Mundane Life" on my business account is an amazing feeling!

2. Have 10,000 blog views in one month
This is something that I should have achieved this year, but without clear goals and upload days I slacked on uploading plenty of times this year. This shouldn't be too hard to achieve if I keep up my other goals. I average between 5-6000 views at the moment when I upload plenty of content

3. Post 3 times a week

In order to keep a reader coming back, I need to have a blog post schedule. At the moment I wing it and this doesn't seem to be a great way of working. I don't make myself post as I don't have a schedule in place and then it soon becomes a few weeks since my last post. I have so much to say and share so having a schedule will help me to stay on track. My schedule is going to be Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

4. Attend a blogging event

I already attend BlogOn so I am not counting this. I'd like to attend a PR event, or a blogging conference that I haven't been to before in 2018.

5. Create a photography area in my office

I plan to set up a little flat lay station so it is easier to grab my camera and take a photo when I need to.

6. Match my husband's earnings

I want to get to the point where I can support our family through my blog and youtube channels. I want to be able to employ my husband, and matching his earnings is the first step to this goal.

7. Speak at an event

I am helping host a disability/mental health discussion at BlogOn in May, but I would also like to speak at an event by the end of the year. This doesn't have to be a conference, but I would like to speak in public.

8. Move over to wordpress

At the moment I use blogger, but I would love to move to wordpress by the end of the year and have my blog designed professionally. I'm working on the content first and then will invest money into making it more professional looking.

Youtube Goals

1. Reach 2000 subscribers
I wasn't sure whether to put a higher number, but as I'm new to videos, I didn't want to put too much pressure on myself. I think 2000 is still a large number, although it may not be to other people. I don't know how people will respond to my videos, but I'm going to try my best to get even more than 2000.

2. Upload 1 video a week
To start off with I am aiming to upload one video a week on a Tuesday. My videos will all have captions too, so this takes time to sort out and I'm new to editing so it will take me a while to get into the flow. I will probably upload more frequently, but I want to set the minimum to one upload a week and go from there.

3. Collaborate with another youtuber
I'd like to collaborate with another youtuber in person. I'd love it even more if it was someone I looked up to as a creator so I'm going to do my best to make this happen.

4. Attend a youtube event
This one may be cheating a little bit as I have already booked it, but I'd like to actually get to VidCon. I think this is a huge goal and achievement as I am flying solo. It's one thing to get to LA but to actually attend the event is another thing, so this is still a huge goal for me. I want to attend sessions and meet new people!

5. Create a filming area
I want a beautiful backdrop for my videos. I love watching youtubers with nice backgrounds and really want to create a homey vibe for my videos.

Social Media Goals

1. Reach 15,000 followers on Twitter
Although followers aren't everything, it is nice to see that people are interested in what I have to say and it links to my next goal...

2. Chat to more people on Twitter
I share links to my posts on twitter and sometimes feel like I forget to also talk. I don't like seeing people posting the same things over and over again so I want to actually take time to talk to people and make some new friends online.

3. Reach 5000 followers on Instagram
I lost lots of followers on Instagram because I was sick of following people just to keep their follow back. When I unfollowed people it showed me just how many people were only following me because I was them, and that they weren't there to see my content. I want to post content that I like and actually have people follow me because they want to, and not to get their own numbers up. This leads to...

4. Upload a photo a day taken from my phone
I want to share this on both Twitter and Instagram. I want to upload a moment from that day onto my platforms and upload one every day. I tend to upload photos from previous times and not really take photos for fun, something that I used to study and enjoy. I want to get out and take more photos and capture the small details so this is a little mini project for myself.

5. Reach 1000 followers on Facebook
I need to post more on my facebook page so I'm going to focus on writing about my day and funny moments instead of just linking to posts.

Health & Fitness Goals

1. Fully convert to a Vegan Diet
I'm pretty much a vegetarian, and after watching a few documentaries on Netflix, I made the decision to go vegan just before Christmas. This wasn't ideal as we were going to family for Christmas who couldn't really change my entire menu with short notice. My aim is to convert fully by the end of the year, but I think this will happen before that. I did try to switch completely but as my body is so used to eating junk this wasn't the best plan. I'm going to transition by not purchasing anything that isn't vegan from now on, and if I already have products that need using up I will still use these.

2. Lose enough weight to be within a healthy BMI
I hate focusing on the number on the scales, but I would really like to say that I have a healthy BMI. I don't plan to constantly weigh myself this year, but I would like to get healthier. 

3. Swim once a week
I've decided to go swimming to get fitter and healthier. I tried the gym but it doesn't work well for me alongside my epilepsy, but I feel that swimming would be a good fit for me. It's a whole body work out and I can take it as gently as I need to. It also gives me some down time to myself as well!

4. Be able to reach the top of a bouldering wall
My husband goes to a gym that is set up like ninja warrior. He isn't able to do everything, but I would like to at least match what he does, if not more, by the end of the year. He doesn't really work out, and isn't the fittest person out there so it shouldn't be too difficult to reach this goal by the end of the year. I'd love to get into bouldering with him, as this is something I have always been interested in trying. 

Misc Goals

1. Read 30 books
I love reading, but last year I only read 3 books which is appalling. I want to read more and scroll through the internet less. I want to read as much as I can in my free time and dedicate time to it before I go to bed. I'm aiming for 30 books and I'll be ashamed of myself if I don't reach this goal. I should read way more than this. I'm encouraging myself to read more by making videos about the books I read too.

2. Complete 3 games on the PS4
I used to love gaming but my PS4 has only been used as a dvd player lately. I want to play more games, again to stop myself aimlessly browsing on the computer. I think 3 games is a good target. I'm not aiming to get every trophy, but I want to complete a run through of the game once.

3. Watch 50 films at the cinema
I have an unlimited pass and love going to the cinema, and watching films in general. I saw lots of films this year, but I'd like to keep track of all the films I watch and write mini reviews on Letterboxd, which is a site similar to goodreads, but for film lovers. I try to go to the cinema once a week so it will be easy to reach this goal if I stick to it.

4. Enter 30 competitions a day
I love entering competitions and I have won some amazing prizes. I want to enter more giveaways so that we can have some more amazing experiences.

These are all of my goals for 2018. It seems like a lot of goals looking at it, but as I have broken them down I feel that I will achieve them if I really focus on what I want to do this year.

    1. I think converting my diet, it's something I've thought about doing and really want to do it this year!
