5 WAYS TO MODERNISE YOUR CHRISTMAS DECOR

THIS IS A COLLABORATIVE POST

When it comes to Christmas Decorations, we all have different styles and ideas for what looks good. Whether you like a cluttered tree full of family memories, or prefer a more minimalist looking tree, we all like to get into the Christmas spirit and create memories that the whole family can enjoy and remember. I personally like more minimal and modern decorations when it comes to Christmas, so I thought I would share with you 10 ideas to modernise your decorating game.

The blog post title is in a diamond in the centre. The background shows christmas decorations including pine cones, bows and baubles.

1. UPGRADE YOUR CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

When it comes to lighting up your Christmas tree, it's easy to just pop to the supermarket and buy some cheap fairy lights to stick on the tree. Why not add something a bit special to your tree to give it a little bit more character? I love unique garland lights all year round, so using something like PomPom lights means that you don't just have to use them on the Christmas tree. They would be perfect to add to any room in your house. I personally would add them to the headboard of our bed.

2. STICK TO A MORE MUTED COLOUR THEME

We often see bright coloured decorations in the shops, whether it is large baubles with characters on, or bright pink tinsel, it seems that these are a very popular choice. However, we are seeing more copper, gold and silver pieces when it comes to home decor. For my own tree, I love the copper baubles that we have, and I would love to pair it with a beautiful Christmas Wreath next year to really tie in the theme of our tree to another area of the house. I think that using metal or wood elements within your Christmas decor can add a more classy feel to your house and really make your tree look more modern.

3.  IF YOU DON'T WANT OR HAVE SPACE FOR A BIG TREE, ADD IN SOME LITTLE ONES THROUGHOUT YOUR HOME.

If you have young children, pets or a small space to work with, it isn't always possible to put up a big tree. Also not everyone likes having a tree up for Christmas! If you want to add some Christmas decor to your home that is more subtle, you could try adding smaller trees around the house, or using little wooden trees, or even tree shaped candle holders.

4. ADD IN A MODERN CHRISTMAS SCENE

A Christmas nativity scene is very traditional, but Christmas has evolved into a family tradition, and for those who are not religious a nativity scene may not be something that you want to display. You may prefer to opt for a different Christmas scene, and a Christmas village could be the perfect solution. Whether it is made out of ceramics or wood, these could add a little personal touch to your decorations and can be as subtle or out there as you want.

5.  MODERNISE YOUR CHRISTMAS STOCKINGS

Last year we got some personalised Christmas sacks to organise our presents and make them look a bit neater. I will be the first to admit that I'm not a fan of presents all stacked up under the tree. I like to keep them organised and have them separated so they are easier to find. There's nothing worse than rummaging around a massive pile of presents to find a certain name! This year we opted to get some Monogrammed stockings to match our sacks. I love the style of Hessian bags and stockings, and they are reusable so we don't have to replace them each year. We picked up ours from The Handmade Christmas Co.

Whatever your decorating style is, enjoy your decorations as we all know they are not up for very long. I love pieces that last for years and a way that we are adding a personal touch to our decorations is to pick a special decoration every year. We visit the local garden centre, and Elise picks an ornament for the tree that she likes. Then when she leaves home, she'll have a whole box of decorations for her own tree.
