My Sunday Morning Playlist

Sunday mornings are a time for relaxation. It's the time of the week where you can rest a bit longer in bed, or take a nice relaxing bath and pamper yourself a little bit. Well...back in the day before having children that is! I like to take an hour or so to myself on a Sunday whilst my husband has some time with our daughter. He usually takes her out so that I can have some child free time, and this is when I like to put on a relaxing playlist and have some chill out time. I generally put on a face mask and read for a bit, or listen to some nice calming music. I thought I'd share my favourite songs to relax to with you today. Maybe it will give you a little bit of inspiration!

When I am relaxing by myself, I tend to put on some noise cancelling headphones and submerse myself in my own little world. However, if it is nap time and my husband comes to join me we prefer to play music using either the television or our super old school stereo. It even has a tape deck, so that tells you just how old it is. As we've started enjoying music more and more, we've been looking at newer systems. There are many systems out there, but we have been eyeing up a few from the Panasonic Speaker System range.

Here are a few of our favourite songs to listen to whilst having a little bit of time to relax:

TEARDROP - MASSIVE ATTACK
You may recognise this as the theme song for the tv series "House" or at least in the first episodes. The theme song later changed, but I will always see this song as the true theme song. I actually got to hear this song live whilst at a Skins party (yes for the television series) and it is just such an amazing song.

LET GO - FROU FROU
I know this song from the film Garden State and whenever I hear it I can picture the film. It's one of my favourite films and it always reminds me of Scrubs, mostly because it is a Zach Braff film.

THE BLOWER'S DAUGHTER - DAMIEN RICE
This song is so emotional, and again it is from a film that I'm a big fan of, Closer starring Natalie Portman. This song is almost guaranteed to make me cry whenever I hear it because it is just such a beautiful song. The violin accompaniment sounds beautiful. There's something about string instruments that just adds the emotion to a song.

ANGELS - THE XX
I always forget about The XX for a while and then I'm drawn back to them. The vocals are so captivating and are great on long car journeys. I love listening to relaxing music whilst I am driving, and prefer more acoustic music. This one definitely helps me to ignore the traffic and average speed checks!

RIVER FLOWS IN YOU - YIRUMA
Back in the day, people thought this song was in the Twilight films, but it actually wasn't. It is perfect for the film though, and Yiruma plays piano beautifully. I love listening to piano music when I'm trying to relax, and I listen to it if I'm having trouble falling asleep. My daughter also loves this sort of music, and asks for me to play piano music, as well as jazz. This is something she has picked up from her dad who loves listening to jazz.

FAST CAR - TRACY CHAPMAN
My husband isn't a fan on this so I tend to listen to it alone. I really enjoy Tracy Chapman and this is another artist that I listen to when I'm alone in the car. I can't help but sing along with as much passion as I can. You can really hear the emotion in her voice as she sings and her songs just make you think. I really recommend listening to her music if you like something that isn't too in your face.

CLOSEST THING TO CRAZY - KATIE MELUA
This is another artist who I have enjoyed for a long time. As someone who is hard of hearing I don't like over complicated music. Having the focus on the voice is great for me as I can actually hear the lyrics. This song is so beautiful and heartfelt. It's a song to lip sync along to whilst tears stream down your face...not that I have ever done that (well maybe I have).

TURN ME ON - NORAH JONES
If you have seen Love Actually then you will have heard this song. We enjoy listening to Norah's albums when we are pottering around the house. It just sounds so pure and her lyrics are amazing. Norah's voice is so unique and captivating, and I wish that more people knew about her.

I WILL FOLLOW YOU INTO THE DARK - DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE
This is a true emo anthem that I used to listen to all the time. Even though it sounds pretty depressing, it is just such an emotional song and for some reason sad songs actually make me happier!

That's just a small selection of songs that help me relax on a Sunday morning. I could go on, but this post would be very long if I kept sharing my playlist. I'm thinking of setting up a spotify to share playlists in the future, so do let me know if you would be interested in that. I'm a massive music fan and listen to a whole range of genres, and I've been to many many gigs so have plenty of stories when it comes to live music.

What is on your Sunday playlist? Let me know in the comments or on twitter!
