5 QUICK TRICKS TO MODERNISE ANY KITCHEN

When it comes to decorating, different styles come in and out of fashion. Something that may be trending within the interior design world, can soon be out of fashion the next day. This means that when it comes to selling your house, your decorating style may let you down a little bit. There are really simple ways to add up to 4% of the value of your home with barely any effort, and it all starts in the kitchen.

I've teamed up with HC Supplies to show you some quick ways you can modernise your kitchen and add value to your home.

1. DON'T SPEND LOTS ON NEW CUPBOARD DOORS

Sometimes all you need is a lick of paint. You can add a modern touch by painting your cupboard doors white, or another neutral colour. If you don't have a large budget, and can't afford to pay out for new ones, simply painting them can make them have a new lease of life. It can change the whole mood of the room too, and having white cupboards can make the smallest of spaces look nice and bright.

2. REPLACE YOUR WORK TOPS

Once you've given your old cupboards a nice paint, the next thing you can do is replace your worktops. This will be cheaper than replacing the entire kitchen, and you can spend as much, or as little as your budget allows. Old worktops can look unappealing, especially if you are trying to sell your house, so it can be worth investing a little bit of money if you are hoping to sell your home. You can find worktops to suite any budget, and you can even find wraps to go over the ones you currently have. It's always worth keeping an eye out for sales too.

3. ADD SOME COLOUR WITH APPLIANCES

If you want a neutral kitchen, you could add a pop of colour with the appliances you use. I love coloured kettles and toasters, and I've always wanted one of those bright coloured SMEG fridges. Unfortunately we have a built in fridge freezer at the moment, but one day I will own one!

4. LIGHTING

Lighting can really change the feel of the room, and can make an old room look new again. Swap out those yellow bulbs and add in some spotlights, or place some LED strip lighting up the cabinets so they light up your work surfaces. We love our strip lighting, and we hardly ever use the main lights in the kitchen. I've been tempted to add some colour strips to create a bit more ambience too.

5. UPDATE YOUR HANDLES

I have never really thought about changing handles on the cupboards in the kitchen, but I have done it with other pieces of furniture. You can really change the style completely and add something a bit more modern. It also means that all of them will match and give the illusion that the cupboards are new. Everyone loves something shiny and new!

That's all the tips I have for you today.
What are your top tips for modernising a kitchen?
