SWIFTOPOLY - A Bookish Journey Through The Eras

When it comes to hobbies, I'm an all in, or not at all, kind of person. So of course I decided that for 2024 I needed to create an entire TBR came for myself. Typically the game had to also include my love for a certain Miss Swift, and so that is how Swiftopoly was born. Swiftopoly is "A Bookish Journey Through The Eras", and I hope you are ready to join this year long journey with me!

We have a lot to get through when it comes to explaining the TBR (to be read) game so I will get straight to it. I've created the game board myself and it is sized so you can print it on many different sizes. It is actually 50cm x 50cm in size. which means you can fit it in a large square frame, or get it printed as a poster print from many places. It also looks fine if you print it as A4 and then can fold it into a bullet journal and use it that way. There are also some question and vault cards ready for you to download and print to the size you wish, or you can simply keep a list digitally of these and use a random generator to pick a card.

YOU CAN DOWNLOAD EVERYTHING YOU NEED BY
VISITING THIS GOOGLE DRIVE FOLDER

Let's Get started with the rules and prompts for the board. You can also find a copy of all the information on the google drive so you don't have to keep coming back to the blog post. I'll also be sharing my journey on my Youtube and Instagram so make sure you are following me on both!

SWIFTOPOLY

Welcome to Swiftopoly. We are going to be taking a bookish journey through the Eras!
The Swiftopoly board is set up in different colour groups for the different Eras, as well as
some meme moments. Instead of train stations, we have destinations that are
mentioned in Swift songs.

Before we get to the prompts though, every good game needs a few rules!

To take part in Swiftopoly, you will need the following items:

2 Dice (Six sided)
An item to move around the board (I recommend a chess piece, because Tay is a mastermind)
Somewhere to write your prompts each month

You will also need to prepare some question cards, and some vault cards.

I have already written some question cards with some prompts to get you started. These are just extra reading prompts for you to read when you land on the question spot. For the Vault cards, you need to write books from your own TBR on them. You will need to print the Question/Vault card image and then stick or write the prompts on the back so you cannot see them when they are image side up.

Here are some of the prompts for the Question cards I have written out:

How to Play

On each turn, roll the dice and move that many spaces, and then simply pick one of the options for the prompt you land on. You only need to read a book that fulfills one prompt from the selection each time you land on that space. If you land on the space again, you can pick the same prompt or one of the other options.

For each “Property” on the board, there will be three prompts to choose from. Some may be quite specific, or they may be broad so you can interpret them how you wish. Prompts will come from lyrics in songs, or from the title of the song.

Rolls

When it comes to how many times you roll per month, this is up to you. You can roll once, or 100 times, it is totally your choice, just make sure you keep it manageable! I will be picking four rolls initially as this is manageable for me, plus there may be additional rolls to add! I also like the option to read outside of the challenge too.

So what do I mean by additional rolls? If you roll a double, you still move that many spaces, but you also need to add another roll to that month! This means an extra book every time you roll a double, which can end up adding quite a few to your list. When it comes to completing the month, make sure you set yourself a reward for completing all reads. If I don’t complete all the books in my TBR for that month, I will have to add them to the following month and still complete my rolls for that month. You can also do this or just start the next month with a new TBR, but I encourage you to try and read all the books you pick each month.

I think that is all the rules you need for now, but if you have any questions, you can message me on instagram @amundanelife,

PROMPTS FOR EACH SPACE ON THE BOARD

Now it is time to share all the prompts for each space on the board, I have written them out in order as you go around the board so it is easier to look up the prompts when you are rolling the dice each month. Remember you only need to pick one of the prompts to complete that roll, you don't need to read all three. Just pick the one that you fancy reading that time, and if you land on that space again maybe try one of the other prompts to mix it up a bit.

Here are the prompts for the first side of the board. You start your first month on the Are You Ready For It space, and this doesn't count as a roll. Your first roll/book will be where you land from this.
